Some people choose fashion. For me, it was always there — running in my blood.
I'm Gull, the founder and designer behind Gullkouture, and my story begins at home, watching my mother. She was endlessly creative — always sewing, always embroidering, always turning simple fabric into something beautiful. I grew up around her threads and needles, and somewhere along the way, her passion quietly became mine.
Even as a little girl, I knew I was artistic. I would design my own clothes, and my sisters would be left shocked — completely awestruck — by what I'd come up with. That feeling, of creating something from nothing and seeing people light up, has never left me.
During high school, Me and my best friend enrolled in a fashion design institute, and that's where everything truly began. It was the very first time I learned how to draw designs properly, how to sew, how to embroider. To this day, that experience holds one of the sweetest places in my memory and in my life.
After graduating, life took its course — I got married, family became my world — but fashion never left me. I started a small boutique right from my home. Slowly, people began to notice my work, and I was blessed with the most amazing, lovely clients. It wasn't easy, of course. The work was time-consuming and demanding — during festivals and Eid, we would work through the night finishing orders. But when clients told me how much they loved my cutting, my fitting, my designs… every sleepless night was worth it.
Through all those years, I learned something important: being a fashion designer is not just about sketching pretty designs on paper. It's about knowing how to observe a woman's body shape. It's about taking precise measurements. It's about drafting the perfect pattern — which I believe is the greatest strength a designer can have — and of course, sewing skills are an absolute must. Fashion design, for me, was never just a career I chose. It's a lifestyle, and I genuinely love it.
One thing close to my heart: I make earth-loving clothes. I choose natural fabrics, always. Polyester? That's just a fancy name for plastic — and if you know me, you know I *cannot stand* plastic. I hate it in anything and everything. I would never wear plastic myself, and I would never want my clients to either. Natural fabrics are healthier for your skin and kinder to our planet, and that's a promise Gullkouture will always keep.
My journey of learning never stopped — because I believe learning happens throughout life. I love learning from great masters and artisans in my field. At one point, I came across Bunka Fashion College in Japan, and I became completely obsessed. I travelled to Thailand and India to learn the Bunka method in English, and I was amazed — the drafting technique is something else. The fit it creates on the body is incredible. And this is just the beginning; I'm always looking forward to learning more and sharing what I know with passionate people who love fashion the way I do. Because I truly believe: when we teach, we learn better, and we know better.
That's exactly why I built this website. Here, I sell my designs — and I also teach. I run small workshops on pattern drafting, the kind of knowledge you'd pay thousands of dollars for in a fashion college. I teach it in a simple, easy way, at a very nominal price, because I want this knowledge to reach everyone who has the passion — not just those who can afford expensive institutes.
My dream is simple: to make a difference in people's lives. To bring a smile to your face when you wear my designs, and to pass on everything I've learned to the next dreamer who picks up a needle and thread.
